Spring brings increased demand for lithium battery upgrades at golf cart dealerships, as customers seek carts with longer runtime, faster charging, and less maintenance than traditional lead-acid systems. Lithium conversions are a fast-growing service, but rushed installs can lead to avoidable issues. Successful conversions rely on five key pre-install checks:

1. Inspect the Electrical Foundation: Older carts (5–30 years old) often have corroded or damaged electrical components (cables, terminals, controller leads, ground points). Lithium batteries expose these hidden issues, so replacing brittle/undersized/corroded parts is a safe preventative step.

2. Evaluate Solenoid and High-Current Components: Older solenoids are designed for lead-acid systems and may fail after lithium conversion, especially with added accessories. Upgrading the solenoid prevents future service calls.

3. Consider Accessory Power Requirements: Modern golf carts have many 12-volt accessories (LED lights, sound systems, etc.) that need a properly sized voltage reducer (minimum 30-AMP) to operate reliably with lithium batteries.

4. Use Clean Installation Practices: Secure battery mounting, proper cable routing, tight connections, and clear documentation improve long-term reliability.

5. Choose Quality Lithium Systems: Not all lithium batteries are equal. Reputable brands prioritize cell quality, proven BMS, vibration/thermal management, and safety features (fuses, IP66 certification), reducing warranty issues and improving performance.
